Carport, roofing, covered entrance to the house: we check the best arrangements!

Learn how to create a comfortable and effective entrance area in your project and why high-quality exterior doors are the foundation of your home's protection.

Visualizations from brochures usually impress with their clean form, but real life prefers to verify our plans on a rainy, November evening. It is then, when we stand under the open sky with a package from the courier and try to hit the lock with a key, that a dry entrance to the house jumps to the top of our wish list.

Door canopy: choosing the right style

Adding a cover over the entrance does not have to disrupt the beauty of our initial design. It is important to look at the house as a whole and ask yourself a few questions:

  • What colors dominate the immediate surroundings?
  • What materials were used on the facade?
  • What style is the house maintained in?
  • Should the roofing let the sun through, or protect against it?

Entrance roofing – 3 top ideas for the upcoming season

Today's architecture tends to shy away from heavy, clunky canopies, offering instead options that look like a light "facelift" for the facade. What do we have to choose from?

We have chosen three main directions worth considering.

  1. Tempered glass canopies, e.g., on non-invasive steel tension rods. This is an absolute favorite among investors: they are almost invisible, do not cut off our access to daylight, and at the same time perfectly fulfill their basic function – protecting the entrance from the weather.
  2. Aluminum shelters. Light and very versatile structures which, with the right color choice, can become a natural extension of the roof. If we add linear LED lighting to them, e.g., controlled by motion sensors, we will get an entrance straight out of a luxury hotel!
  3. Wooden canopies, supported by lamellas. Such a natural recess or extended entrance, partially hidden behind vertical lamellas, will give us an additional sense of privacy, shielding the front from side wind.

Good doors will defend themselves. A canopy is our comfort zone

Let's approach the topic honestly: if we invest in solid exterior doors – e.g., overlay or insert doors, then winter, frost, or heavy rains will not pose any threat to our interior.

  • A good quality leaf with high thermal insulation and a modern sealing system will easily keep out cold and moisture, ensuring the warmth of the home.

So why bother with a canopy or shelter at all? It's worth doing it for yourself, for your own convenience and pure pleasure! A canopy over the door will give us extra relief: it's that moment when you can leisurely fold your umbrella, put down heavy bags for a moment, and calmly shake snow off your shoes.
