Inspired by historical designs or borrowings from past centuries, we encounter them every day in fashion, art or culture, as well as in contemporary architecture and interior design. Today, we present a design that goes back more than a century in building history, which has not lost its timelessness one bit.
Discover the heritage style doors
The heritage style, also named after Francis Henry Crittal, is characterised by large panes of glass separated by simple bolections in the structural joinery. The originally steel construction is now often made of aluminium, among other materials, which allows the traditional look to be retained while exploiting the advantages of this material.
Thus, we gain the desired styling in domestic, office or service spaces, drawing maximum benefit from the resistance, durability and thermal performance of aluminium joinery.
A history full of beauty, class and elegance
Crittall vitrines, or French-style Crittal, first came into use in the late 19th century in Essex, UK. Initially they were used exclusively in industrial and public buildings such as factories. In such facilities, it was particularly useful to take advantage of the abundance of natural light throughout the day; however, making secure sheets of glass with a substantial surface area was a challenge at the time.
A clever solution was then invented: strong steel frames that divided and supported the glazing. This successful creative process gave rise to the heritage door in the industrial style, which (with changes and improvements) we still use successfully today.
How to achieve this effect with DAKO aluminium joinery?
Thanks to the solutions available on the market, investors and building owners can fulfil their dream of noble Crittal-style window and door displays without any obstacles. In the DAKO brand's offer, we can find two tailor-made systems, which will prove optimal depending on their location in the building design.
- DA-FerroLine System: series recommended for external installation
The DA-FerroLine system has been developed for versatile use in both new developments and historic buildings. Features of the series include excellent levels of insulation, sound attenuation and protection against water and wind penetration, with a Uw coefficient of approximately 1.0 W/m²K.
Narrow, minimalist aluminium profiles reliably reflect the appearance of steel joinery and, thanks to the renovation profiles, the system is characterised by ease of installation without the need to remove existing window frames.
In addition, the system has many options for the equipment and functioning of window and door sashes. Due to its design and the technologies used, it provides optimal acoustic insulation in the room.
- DA-45 System for interiors
The DA-45 series will be the right choice for internal glazing, partitions and room dividing windows. Its key features include high aesthetics, a subtle, elegant appearance and many years of functionality.
