There are various types of exterior roller shutters, including modern, refined models designed specifically for completed projects, which require minimal interference with the façade’s appearance—or whose construction can be easily concealed.Depending on the type, installation of such shutters can be carried out, for example, during a major renovation, while replacing window joinery, or independently of these factors. We invite you to read our guide, where we explain the details of each option!
Exterior roller shutters that don’t require installation during the construction stage
Front-mounted roller shutters
Front-mounted (surface-mounted) roller shutters are an excellent choice for already finished buildings, as their installation does not require any structural modifications to the building itself. This is possible thanks to the shutter box, which in this model is installed directly on the exterior wall or within the window recess.
For surface-mounted shutters, there are three modern box shapes to choose from: the round DK-RZO, the semi-round DK-RZP, and the five-sided DK-RZS. The inspection cover located on the outside makes maintenance work easier, while the option to integrate a mosquito screen provides additional protection against insects.
Flush-mounted roller shutters

Versatile flush-mounted roller shutters can be installed both during the construction stage of a house and during renovation projects that involve façade modifications. The front panel of the shutter box can be easily finished with a chosen decorative material (e.g., brick veneer, plaster in any color, etc.), allowing it to blend seamlessly with the wall’s appearance. The inspection cover, located on the exterior side, enables maintenance and servicing without disturbing the residents’ privacy. This highly ergonomic shading system also enhances thermal and acoustic insulation inside the building and improves burglary resistance. A wide range of automation options ensures convenient, remote control of the shutters.
Top-mounted exterior roller shutters

Although top-mounted roller shutters are usually included in a project’s design stage, it is also possible to install this system when replacing existing window joinery. The top-mounted system requires the shutter box to be attached to the upper frame of the window, with the guides screwed onto the outer parts of the frame, and the entire assembly then placed within the window recess.
Depending on the selected version, this type of shutter allows for complete concealment of the box (the most aesthetically pleasing option) or for leaving it exposed. These shutters can also be combined with a built-in retractable mosquito screen, offering effective insect protection without compromising functionality.
Which system should you choose?
There is no single, one-size-fits-all exterior roller shutter solution that works equally well for every type of project. The right choice for an already completed house or apartment depends largely on individual needs, expectations, and the type of building.
If you are unsure which option is best, we always recommend consulting an expert who will listen to your needs, identify the most suitable solution, and help you select systems that enhance the beauty of your windows while providing optimal interior protection.
